School
education in New Zealand is for 13 years, beginning
at the age of 5. Secondary school includes form
3 to form 7. After form 7, students take the university
entrance examination.

early 1990s, educational institutions have greater
individual control over their resources and are
responsive to the need of the community. Government
policy allows full fee paying over seas students
to come and study in new Zealand and caters for
government aided programs for developing countries.
In the
higher education sector, there are universities,
polytechnics, private institutions and private
training establishments.

Student
Visa
Student visa is required
if the course to be attended is more than 3
months. On acceptance by a New Zealand institution,
an offer of placement is sent to the student
whose enrollment has been confirmed. The visa
officer at the New Zealand high commission will
need this letter in addition to:
Financial
Aid
New Zealand Official
Development Assistance (NZODA) study awards
and scholarships is a financial aid source which
is funded by the ministry of Foreign Affairs
and Trade of the New Zealand Government. Applicants
from countries with a bilateral agreement for
co operation may apply for the following awards.
1. NZODA Aotearoa scholarship
2. NZODA Study and Short term training awards
3. NZODA Post graduate scholarships
This scholarship is applicable to Indian nationals
for post graduate study in areas that have relevance
for the country. Applicants are granted scholarship
covering tuition fee along with a miscellaneous
grant. Travel, health insurance is not covered
in this award.
Commonwealth
Scholarship and Fellowship Award
Students from commonwealth
countries may apply for the award for undertaking
advanced courses. Applicants whose priority
areas of study match those available at New
Zealand universities are given preference.
The scholarships are available on enrollment
with any of New Zealand's seven universities.
A personal maintenance amount of NZ $950, and
$575 is offered besides travel, living and tuition
costs.
